About Hong Kong

Hong Kong served as the host city for HCCH Asia Pacific Week 2015. As a major international legal hub in the Asia Pacific region, it provided a fitting backdrop for discussions on cross-border child support recovery and family maintenance under the Hague 2007 Child Support Convention and Protocol.

Useful Contacts

For enquiries about the event, participants were directed to the organizers:

  • Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) — www.hcch.net
  • HCCH Permanent Bureau's Asia Pacific Regional Office

For attendees traveling to Hong Kong for the conference, the city offers excellent connectivity through its international airport and efficient public transport network. The University of Hong Kong is easily accessible via the MTR system, with the main campus located near the HKU station. Visitors should plan to arrive with sufficient time to navigate the campus, which is situated on the western side of Hong Kong Island. The November climate in Hong Kong is generally mild and pleasant, with moderate temperatures and lower humidity compared to the summer months, making it comfortable for both travel and participation in conference activities.

Hong Kong's status as a Special Administrative Region of China gives it a unique legal framework that blends common law traditions with Chinese civil law influences. This dual legal heritage made it an especially relevant venue for discussions on cross-border family maintenance and child support recovery. The city is home to numerous international law firms, arbitration centers, and legal institutions that serve the broader Asia Pacific region. Participants were encouraged to make use of the city's extensive hospitality and dining options, with many hotels and restaurants located within convenient distance of the conference venue.
